For the past 18 years I have had my students participate in History Fairs sponsored by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency and National History Day (NHD). I

find the program to be highly educational, a valuable tool to develop critical thinking skills, and for enhancing reading, writing, and research skills needed for college. It is one of my favorite parts of being a history teacher.
Many of the posts on the site are great topics for use in a History Fair project. However, if you are a student, you should be using a variety of primary sources, books, and other documents. Go visit historical sites, read books, and don’t just rely on the Internet. I am always available to help you find other sources or to tell you where I got my information. If you need help with your NHD or history fair project, always ask your teacher first.
If you need more clarification about a source, photo, or a document, please email me at: historyrat@yahoo.com
